How to Set Up IPTV

Whether your subscription uses M3U playlists, Xtream Codes, or a portal, here's how to configure IPTV on any device in about five minutes.

The quick answer: IPTV setup comes down to three pieces of information from your provider — a portal/server URL, your username, and your password (or a single M3U playlist URL). Enter those three things into any IPTV player app and your full channel list appears instantly.

Marinios IPTV delivers credentials in both formats — an M3U playlist URL and Xtream Codes login — so you can use whichever your preferred app supports. Below is everything you need to know about each format and where to configure it.

What You Need Before Starting

Before you configure anything, gather these:

  • IPTV player app — TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, VLC, OTT Navigator, or Kodi (see our app guide to choose).
  • M3U playlist URL or Xtream Codes credentials from your provider.
  • A stable internet connection — 25 Mbps for HD, 50 Mbps for 4K.

The configuration steps are nearly identical across apps — enter your playlist URL or credentials, accept the EPG URL, and the app builds your channel list.

M3U Playlist Setup

An M3U playlist is a text file containing your channel list, delivered as a URL like http://provider.com/get.php?username=user&password=pass&type=m3u_plus. Pasting this URL into an app loads all your channels and the EPG.

  1. 1. Copy your M3U URL from the credentials your provider sent.
  2. 2. Open your IPTV player and find "Add playlist" or "+" in the playlist menu.
  3. 3. Select "Add URL" (not "Upload") and paste the M3U link exactly.
  4. 4. Name the playlist (e.g., "Marinios IPTV") and save.
  5. 5. Wait for the channel list to load — it can take 30–60 seconds for large playlists.

Full instructions for every player are on our M3U setup guide.

Xtream Codes Setup

Xtream Codes is the other common format. You'll receive three values: a server/portal URL (e.g., http://provider.com:8080), a username, and a password.

  1. 1. Open your app and choose "Xtream Codes" as the playlist type.
  2. 2. Enter the portal URL including the port number (e.g., :8080).
  3. 3. Enter your username and password exactly as provided — they are case-sensitive.
  4. 4. Let the app authenticate and build your channel list.
  5. 5. If the EPG doesn't load, add the EPG URL from your provider.

EPG (Electronic Program Guide) Setup

The EPG shows what's currently playing and what's coming up on every channel. Most IPTV players load the EPG automatically from your provider. If yours doesn't:

  1. 1. Find the EPG/XMPG URL in your subscription details.
  2. 2. In your app, open Playlist Settings → EPG and paste the URL.
  3. 3. Save, then let the guide refresh — it can take a few minutes to populate for large lineups.

IPTV Setup FAQs

An M3U playlist is a text file (or URL) that lists all your IPTV channels in a format players can read. It's how your provider hands you the full channel lineup. The extended version (.m3u8 with EXTINF tags) also includes channel logos and metadata.

Xtream Codes is an IPTV server management format that gives you three login values — server URL, username, and password. Many players support it directly, so you don't need to handle M3U files at all.

With a good player, entering your credentials takes under 5 minutes on any platform. The channel list may take 30–60 seconds to load afterward for large subscriptions like Marinios IPTV (24,000+ channels).

Common causes: the URL has a typo or space, the subscription expired, your internet can't reach the server (DNS issue), or the provider's server is temporarily down. Re-enter the URL, check expiry, restart your router, then contact support if needed.
