How to Add EPG to Your IPTV Player

Set up an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for your IPTV — see show schedules, descriptions, and channel info across all your devices.

The quick answer: EPG (Electronic Program Guide) is the TV schedule that shows what is playing now and what is coming up. To add it, paste your provider's EPG/XMLTV URL in your player's EPG settings, refresh, and the guide populates automatically within a few minutes.

Marinios IPTV provides an EPG source with every subscription. If you also need to set up your channel list, see our M3U setup guide. For login via Xtream Codes, see our Xtream Codes guide. Browse all setup guides or visit the setup hub.

What Is EPG?

EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide — it is the digital version of a TV listings magazine. When your IPTV player loads an EPG, you see a grid showing what is currently on each channel, what is coming up next, episode descriptions, and more. Without EPG, you only see a channel name. With EPG, you see a full TV schedule. The EPG data is delivered in XMLTV format (.xml or .xmpg) via a URL your provider hosts.

What You Need

  • EPG/XMLTV URL — provided by your IPTV provider (Marinios IPTV includes this with every plan).
  • An IPTV player with EPG support — TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, Kodi, and most others support EPG.

Step-by-Step: Adding EPG to Your Player

TiviMate

  1. Step 1 — Open TiviMate and go to Settings → EPG.
  2. Step 2 — Select "EPG Sources" and click "Add source."
  3. Step 3 — Paste your EPG/XMLTV URL and give it a name.
  4. Step 4 — Tap "OK" and trigger an EPG refresh. Premium users can set auto-refresh intervals.

IPTV Smarters Pro

  1. Step 1 — Open IPTV Smarters and go to Settings.
  2. Step 2 — Tap "EPG" and select "Add EPG Source."
  3. Step 3 — Paste the EPG URL and tap "Add."
  4. Step 4 — Restart IPTV Smarters. The EPG will load on the next launch.

Kodi (PVR IPTV Simple Client)

  1. Step 1 — Open Settings → Add-ons → PVR Clients → PVR IPTV Simple Client → Configure.
  2. Step 2 — Switch to the "EPG Settings" tab.
  3. Step 3 — Paste the EPG/XMLTV URL in the "XMLTV URL" field.
  4. Step 4 — Restart Kodi. EPG will load in the TV section. See our Kodi IPTV guide.

Fixing "No Program Info" Issues

If your TV guide shows channel names but no program data, try these fixes:

  • Verify the EPG URL: Open the URL in a browser — it should return XML data starting with <?xml or <tv. If it returns an M3U file, you pasted the wrong URL.
  • Force a refresh: Most players cache EPG data. Go to EPG settings and tap "Refresh" or "Update EPG" to force a fresh download.
  • Check timezone settings: If program times are wrong, your player's timezone may be incorrect. Set it to your local timezone in player settings.
  • Clear EPG cache: In TiviMate, go to Settings → EPG → Clear EPG cache. In other players, clear app data and re-enter the EPG URL.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

  • EPG loads but shows wrong channels: Channel names in EPG must match your M3U playlist exactly. If the names do not match, the player cannot map them. Contact your provider for a corrected EPG source.
  • EPG data is 1 day behind: Some EPG sources update on a delay. Try a different EPG source if your provider offers alternatives. TiviMate premium auto-refreshes daily.
  • EPG URL blocked by ISP: Rarely, ISPs block XMLTV URLs. Try a different DNS or contact your provider for an alternative EPG link. See network troubleshooting.

EPG Setup FAQs

An EPG URL is a web link that points to an XMLTV file containing TV program data — channel names, show titles, start/end times, and descriptions. Your IPTV provider hosts this file and gives you the URL to paste into your player.

Most dedicated IPTV players do — TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, GSE Smart, Kodi, OTT Navigator, and others all support EPG. VLC does not support EPG natively. Check our IPTV apps guide for platform-specific details.

Most EPG sources update every 12–24 hours. TiviMate premium supports auto-refresh at configurable intervals. Free players may require manual refresh. If your EPG is consistently outdated, contact your provider.

Yes, many players allow you to add any XMLTV-format EPG URL. However, third-party EPG sources may not map correctly to your provider's channel names. The EPG from your provider (like Marinios IPTV) is always the most accurate match for your channel list.
